Oh no, there are mushrooms in the lawn! Today, i shall write something away from spirituality and Marie Callas.
As a gardener, do you feel panicked? Yeah, you got to find out the reason why shrooms make they home at your garden…
Yes, believe it or not there’s a lot of people out there that have mushrooms in their lawns and just aren’t sure what to do about them.
Let me share my knowledge in this area since i have been managing my small garden for some years.
Novice gardeners have to understand that mushrooms grow because of some left over organic material which is rotting away slowly underneath the lawn, like dead plants etc…It’s part of nature’s cycle hence no need to worry about this really.
The problem with mushrooms is that there are just so many varieties, some are poisonous, some are toxic, and others are edible. With some experience, anyone can tell which are poisonous and which are edible.
A more serious problem to gardeners will be “fairy rings”, which are “mushroom circles” created by mushrooms. When this happens, it could be detrimental to your grass lawn as fairy rings will dry out the grass and often kill it within the circle. The problem continues because the circle will continue to grow in size and there really isn’t a cure for this.
For these reasons, the best solution is to remove mushrooms from our lawns whenever they are first seen, and avoid all sorts of nasty problems down the road. Simply remove the top layer of your lawn and replace it with a clean layer of soil will do. Dispose the infected layer of soil in a plastic bag in the process.
That’s it.
Happy gardening….
Just went out in the garden for the first time in a week. I miss its fragrance! It was after my 20 min jog and walk so I didn’t do as much as I wanted to do which is to sweep the fallen leaves away. Just pulled weeds there and mowed the a bit grass and clover. Or maybe inappropriate… Hopefully I can get some more done tomorrow while the weather is so beautiful.
Confession to make.
So, I haven’t exactly been obsessed with gardening in the couple of weeks. It’s been a combination of factors. One is that my garden is small and pretty well full up. I have to wait for things to croak, like some “insects” messing it up, not if there are any, maybe some birds bringing their food to eat here, to plant new things. Which is really just about the level of maintenance I can manage right now, so that’s okay.
I enjoy doing my gardening with my bare hands. The wonderful feel of the earth soil brushing through the gaps between each finger is just so spiritual. You can really feel the mini pulse of the earth running through you whole body. Now is winter, the soil is so much harder, therefore I have to use some gardening tools to dig the trenches and then brush them through with my both palms before I place some seeds into the covered trench with some nutrients.
It’s not a pleasant task working on it under a near freezing environment, as each howl of wind will send extreme shivers down your body. I’m that the winter temperature does not get any lower that’s why I always like this place. My health is so much better than the past, but as person ages, there are always unknown symptoms that can creep into you anytime.
Sipping a cup of hot flower tea after my gardening time is also one of the best way to enjoy life. Much better than watching a noisy TV show or listening to some old rocks. I realise that my preference in life has shifted gradually as I cross 40. Now I am looking for finer side of life instead of some bland pursuit of material necessities.
I love gardening a lot. My small garden is my little haven away from the stress and chaos of everyday life. It gives me room to think and meditate, to ponder and plan. No wonder my wife always exclaims I should be sleeping in the garden instead of the bedroom. That’s so funny whenever I think of her rants.
Delve into a deeper level of understanding, I think the garden emanates positive energy to my house too. This radiant source of energy has kept my family happy and united. As you know, plants are living things too and it’s said that they are able to communicate to each other. A nicely maintained garden does give out positive energy. When you take care of them well, they grow better and faster.
A garden can be a wonderful source of energy. It all depends on how well you maintain it. When things don’t seem to be going too well in life and when matters generally seem to be getting out of hand, check your garden and the way your plants are growing. They will give you a complete picture of your energy pattern.
There is a new addition at my little garden. It is a stone chess set measuring about 50cm by 50cm. I saw it at a discounted price at a florist and I told my wife I got to get it immediately. The price is reasonable as it is not a new set as some weather effects and fungus have creeped in. After I laboured it home, a thorough brushing was carried out and the end result was as good as new. It looks majestic there while embellishing the garden too. Now this place is really my spiritual cosy land. Having a tea while playing a chess game here in a weekend afternoon would beat most forms of relaxation.
Speaking of gardening, I just love my shrub of iochroma cyaneum that is still growing strongly in my small garden. I heard this plant can grow up 3 or 4 metres tall and I afraid that my garden would be tight for them. The weather is getting cooler as it is approaching autumn I think. The plant dislikes winter weather and a tip I use is to place it in front of my back wall so that the reflected sunshine can keep it comfortable. I’m planning to prune it down it down to the ground level before the winter so that it can flower again in December.
By sitting in the my garden chair enjoying the view of it and other shrubs can just complete my day. Watching them brings some nature to my doorstep and I relax spiritually too while reading my daily news there.
Another hobby of mine is totally not related to Marie Callas or spirituality. It is gardening. To me, it is equivalent to spending sometime meditating because it relaxes me. It’s spiritual somehow. Plants are living objects and they are good to heal your wounded souls. Just take a walk through in your garden or parks will really do you great wonders if you are feeling down and dejected. It’s very much a type of therapy especially right after a day’s of stressful works.
Gardening requires knowledge about botany and landscaping too. While I’m never an expert about this, I do have some years of experience tending my plants. Ever since I live in the city, I have less and less chances of walking with nature therefore I enjoy spending my weekends going out of town to feel the nature.
